23.09.2022. 10.00–18.00
Liepājas muzejs, lielā zāle (Kūrmājas prospekts 16, Liepāja)

A large-scale exhibition, "THE BEGINNINGS OF THE RAILWAY IN LIEPĀJA (1871 – 1940)", created in collaboration with the Alexandre Vassiliev Foundation, will open for viewing from 5 pm on July 8 to November 6.  It's about the history of the Liepāja–Romny railway. The railway greatly influenced the development and growth of Liepāja. Most rapid growth took place in the second half of the 19th century and until the first part of the 20th century.

The artist Anna Heinrihsone created the scenography for the exhibition. The artist used materials from the collection of the Liepāja Museum and the Latvian Railway History Museum, the Latvian State Archive of Audiovisual Documents of the National Archives of Latvia, and the Latvian Museum of Photography. Additionally, the historical costumes and accessories from Alexander Vassiliev's voluminous fashion collection perfectly reveal the era's feeling.

The construction of the railway lasted several years and opened the possibility for Liepāja to become an important and modern city. The railway line gave unprecedented dynamism to developing the town.
