The 2019 Liepaja Art Forum is opened by a unique event at the "Great Amber" - a dive into the meditative sounds universe of Morton Feldman, while lying down! Instead of the usual rows of chairs, cosy mats will be placed in the concert hall, and visitors are encouraged to take pillows and blankets to the concert, in order to peacefully enjoy the music of the famous American avant-gardist, who seems to exist out of time and in some other dimension. Morton Feldman (1926-1987) knew both art and music equally well, and was often inspired by the creative works of New York's avant-garde painters. By self-learning, he gained profound knowledge in landscape painting of Italian Renaissance and Dutch masters, French impressionists, Pre-Raphaelite and American artists, as well as studied the works of Rembrandt and Mondrian, but his final years were connected with the 19th century Middle Eastern and Turkish rugs. Their enchanting, beautiful patterns inspired the massive composition of Crippled Symmetryin 1983.
